A Pair of Staffordshire Greyhounds - circa 1855
A superb pair of Staffordshire Greyhounds.
Nearly all the Staffordshire "Long Dogs" are indeed Greyhounds.
Often referred to as Whippets, no - the king of dogs in Victorian times
was the Greyhound. Coursing was hugely popular and the
Champion dogs were celebrities.
Greyhounds on cobalt blue inkwells were probably the
most popular of the greyhound figures, but this classic model
so beautifully modelled with such fine legs ran them close.
Here we have another example, sometimes considered relatively common,
fine early pairs in good condition are very hard to find.
This a lovely pair.
They are in very good condition,
a scuff to 1 ear and with no restoration
Height: 7.5 inches
