A Staffordshire figure of the King of Sardinia - circa 1855
Victor Emmanuel II the first King of italy.
In 1855 Sardinia joined the allies in the Crimean War,
sending 10,000 troops to help the fight against Russia.
With the help of Garibaldi, he united Italy and in 1861
he was proclaimed King of Italy.
Anyone who helped Great Britain in the time of war
immediately became a hero and our staffordshire potters
therefore produced several figures of him.
This is a very tall and attractive figure.
White and gilt, this is an extremely fine figure.
and is an excellent example.
It is in superb condition
with no damage or restoration.
Height: 16.5 inches
