A Pair of Staffordshire Disraeli Spaniels - circa 1850
A classic pair of Staffordshire Spaniels,
bold underglaze black markings and gilt collars.
and with the famous "Disraeli" curls on their foreheads.
Comforter spaniels, fire-side or mantle dogs,
they came in all shapes and sizes and decorated houses
the length and breadth of England.
In some streets of terraced houses, every one could have a pair
looking out of the window onto the street, but the most popular position
has traditionally been around the fireplace.
A fine, attractive, true pair,
very sharp, deep modelling
and with a nice clean glaze.
They are in very good condition,
A fairly irrelevant shallow chip underneath a front paw,
visible in the picture below showing the base
and no restoration.
Height: 10.5 inches
