A Staffordshire Lilac Cottage Pastille Burner - circa 1840
A Stunning Pastille burner
probably made by the Dudson Factory.
Due to people moving into towns
during the industrial revolution,
sanitation was appalling which led to dreadful smells.
Pastille burners became a necessity
and were very popular.
Pastille burners became more and more elaborate,
some fine examples were so delicate
that they became purely ornamental.
Some of the finest ever made were the Lilac,
or 'Lavendar' or 'Blue Clay' examples.
This Cottage or 'Arbour House' is a superb example,
the modelling and painting of some of the flowers is beautiful.
In fantastic condition,
a few minor chips
with no restoration.
