A Staffordshire Tithe Pig Group - circa 1820

A lovely example of a Staffordshire classic.

In the early 19th century Tithing was a traditional
and unpopular practice of giving a tenth
of your produce to the church.

Our Staffordshire potters produced many variations,
showing a farmer and his wife giving their tenth child along
with the pig, eggs, corn etc.

This is a bright and colourful example
of a classic Staffordshire figure.

Most of this figure is in very good condition.
There is restoration to:
4 bocage tips
The tip of the mother's bonnet
The hands of the Priest
and priced accordingly.

Height: 7.5 inches

Provenance:
Manheim New York
Wynn Saymann Richmond Mass.
