A Pair of Staffordshire Spaniels with Pups - circa 1845
This is a lovely pair of Staffordshire blue-eyed spaniels
with their pups.
Queen Victoria's favourite dog was a King Charles Spaniel named "Dash"
and the Staffordshire potters started making Spaniels of all shapes and sizes to
decorate fireplaces throughout the Country.
These delightful spaniels are brilliantly painted.
With their blue eyes and beautiful red feathered markings,
in contrast to their black and white puppies
and sitting on bright cobalt blue gilt lined bases.
This is a true pair, they have always been together.
They must have been early out of the moulds
as the moulding is really deep, sharp and well defined.
Having only a couple of minor chips and flakes to their coats,
they have no restoration.
