Nick Burton - for a Quality Staffordshire Figure

A Staffordshire Figure of a Crimean Soldier and Girl - circa 1854

Another delightful figure inspired by the Crimean War.

A Crimean Soldier with his girl or maybe his wife,
our Staffordshire Potters produced this lovely figure,
probably around the start of the conflict.

This is an absolutely superb example,
the modelling is very sharp,
the colouring is excellent - perfectly fired strong enamel colours
and of course the brilliant cobalt blue.
Take a 2nd look at the beautifully painted flowers on
the ladies dress.  There is lovely soft gilding,
I will have to highlight the small heart at the top of her blouse,
the soldiers buckle and the badge on his hat.
The lead glaze is perfect, yes it is a beauty.

Is it rare ?
A figure of this quality and in this condition is precious.
Therefore, of course it is.

It is in very good condition.
There is an almost irrelevant hole on the underside of the base
and there has been no restoration.

Height: 8 inches
